Rare WWII Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) Group among strong medals section at Cuttlestones...

A rare set of medals, consisting of a DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) in case, a 39/45 star, a Burma star, a France & Germany star and war medal with condolence slip & letter awarded to Flight Lieutenant J F Murison RAF (V.R.), all carrying an estimate of between £1,500 - £1,800, looks set to be the star lot within a strong medals and militaria section at Cuttlestones’ Friday, 1st April specialist collectors’ sale.

Also within the section is a family medal group of particular interest. The collection charts the military careers of two family members during the early 20th Century; a particularly poignant reminder that this intense period of military activity affected almost every family in the country. The collection consists of a four bar Queen’s South Africa Medal (Talana, Defence of Ladysmith, Laing's Neck and Belfast) together with a two bar Kings South Africa medal (South Africa 1901 and 1902) both named for 4053 Pte A Smith of the Leicester Regiment. Alongside this is a World War I 14/15 star, a casualty letter dated 1918, an award letter, a Great War Medal and a Victory Medal all named for T4-091847 Dvr J. A. Smith A.S.C, together with marriage certificate. The collection is mounted on a board with a lead memorial plaque named for A. M. Smith and is expected to achieve in the region of £900 - £1,100

One other highlight of this varied and interesting section is a fleet air arm Lemania single button chronograph watch, its stainless steel case marked on the back with broad arrow stamp and 0552/920-3305, 55455 (0552 being the Fleet Air Arm destination). This lot is expected to fetch between £500 - £800.
